Focusing resources and initiatives at key locations within the sprawling Memphis Medical District has created visible signs of change and spurred new investment and a spirit of collaboration amongst Memphis’ medical institutions.

Corneil Collaborative assisted U3 Advisors to undertake strategic district planning and to develop design ideas for a number of catalytic projects that the Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMCD) could undertake to show early and convincing signs of improvement and change in the district.

Working with the MMDC Board of Directors, an urban framework plan that identifies key connections, corridors, development parcels and important existing amenities and anchors, helped frame the strategic focus of key catalytic projects that would serve an immediate need while advancing a larger district transformation agenda. Key initiatives included: developing the conceptual design for a mixed use student housing and retail development on a key block on Madison Street adjacent to the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Campus, developing “gateway” features for various key points of arrival around the district and creating the vision and design ideas for a “pop up” food venue in the Health Sciences Park that will create a food amenity for students and employees in the area.
